Distribution of Methamphetamine

Defending Against Meth Charges Throughout Florida

Methamphetamine is one of the most addictive drugs around. Further, the production of methamphetamine is an extremely volatile and risky process. It is very common for so-called meth labs to explode and cause severe injury or death. If you or a loved one has been accused of methamphetamine trafficking, you need knowledgeable legal counsel on your side immediately.

The Tampa law firm of O’Brien Hatfield takes on the most serious criminal allegations, including methamphetamine-related charges. We defend clients in state and federal courts across Florida.

Under Florida law, distribution charges are based on the weight of the drug. Therefore, if the government can prove that you possessed between 14 and 28 grams of meth, you can be sentenced to a mandatory minimum prison term of three years. Possession of between 28 and 200 grams can bring on a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years. More than 200 grams and you face a minimum 15-year prison term. Again, these are minimum sentences. The judge has discretion to add years to your sentence.

Fighting Serious Drug Allegations At Every Point In The Legal Process

These mandatory minimum sentences give prosecutors enormous power, but they do not have unlimited power. Our Tampa methamphetamine possession attorneys will use every tool at our disposal to fight these charges. The government is required to prove every part of its case beyond a reasonable doubt. We will attack every part of that case, from the weight of the drugs to whether you had possession. We will look at the credibility of the government’s witnesses and at any irregularities in the search and seizure of your property.

Our law firm has a strong record of success in trial and pretrial litigation. We will be tenacious in our efforts to protect your rights and seek the best available outcome to your charges.
