Florida man found with heroin, firearms and Xanax

According to law enforcement officers with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, a Pensacola man was taken into custody after reportedly being found with heroin, firearms and Xanax. The incident happened on April 5 off of Gulf Beach Highway on Bremen Avenue.

Deputies were responding to a call in the area where the man was sitting in his parked vehicle. After smelling the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, they decided to investigate. The man who was sitting in the vehicle had four prior felony convictions,as it turned out.

The deputies reportedly conducted a search and found 64 baggies of heroin, firearms and Xanax bars. The man was taken into custody and was charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon, possessing a concealed weapon, possession of heroin with the intent to sell and possession of marijuana. He was placed into custody in the Escambia County Jail and had a bond set in the amount of $13,500.

Drug offenses can result in long sentences and harsh fines if people are convicted as they are charged. People who have aggravating factors, including prior felonies, possessing guns while engaged in drug crimes or possession with the intent to sell can face even more time. Experienced drug crimes lawyers may find issues with the investigation and the state's case. This might allow them to file motions to suppress some of the evidence against their clients. They might also try to negotiate with the prosecutors who are assigned to the cases in order to secure pleas to lesser offenses or to caps on potential sentences.
