According to the Washington Post, a former University of Tennessee football player has been charged with a sex crime in Florida:
“Mack Crowder, who played in 11 games as an offensive lineman for the University of Tennessee football team last season, was arrested in Florida after police said he engaged in a online sexual conversation with someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl, also sending her four photos of his genitals.”
It turns out the “14 year old girl” was actually an investigator with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, Crowder admitting to sending the photos and to having knowledge that he was communicating with someone he thought to be a 14 year old.
This is not an uncommon police tactic, as they often engage in sting operations to catch people they believe to be soliciting sex from minors or distributing pornographic images of children.
Unfortunately, innocent people can get caught up in these stings and face the harsh consequences that come with sex crimes charges.
