Two men arrested after taking drugs to jail parking lot

Two Florida men are facing multiple charges after allegedly being caught with drugs in the parking lot of the Brevard County Jail. The incident occurred on March 5, and the charges were filed on April 10.

According to media reports, the defendants, ages 25 and 31, went to the jail to visit an incarcerated girlfriend. After the visit, the pair started to drive away in a white Ford Escape, but officers pulled them over because they said the 25-year-old was driving on a suspended license. Officers searched the vehicle and claim to have found several baggies of fentanyl inside. They also reportedly found methamphetamine hidden in a shoe, heroin-laced candies, a .380-caliber pistol and a stun gun.

Deputies handling the case claim that the drugs sold by the defendants were responsible for overdoses in the area. Both men have been charged with conspiracy to traffic fentanyl. The 25-year-old has been additionally charged with driving on a suspended license. The 31-year-old has been charged with methamphetamine trafficking and carrying a concealed weapon. No bond has yet been set for either man.

If convicted, individuals charged with drug crimes in Florida can face severe consequences, including lengthy prison terms and heavy fines. However, every defendant is innocent until proven guilty and has the right to put forth a defense. With the help of a criminal defense attorney, a defendant may be able to successfully fight drug charges and avoid conviction. An attorney may be able to scrutinize the evidence for details that undermine the prosecution's version of events in an effort to get the case dismissed. An attorney might also negotiate a plea bargain that lets the defendant plead guilty to reduced charges with lower penalties.
