Man facing charges on 14 counts of child pornography

Mar 9, 2018 | Sex Offenses

Florida authorities took a 40-year-old man into custody on Feb. 28 after he was suspected of downloading child pornography. He was being held in Orange County Jail without bond on 14 counts.

Authorities reportedly learned during an undercover investigation that software was being used to download what was suspected to be child pornography. The software was found to be coming from a specific Internet Protocol address. The IP address was linked to a residence located in the 1600 block of Larkin Avenue in Orlando. Authorities obtained a search warrant and entered the home. They reportedly found evidence of child support after conducting a forensic examination at the scene. Digital devices were reportedly seized for additional analysis.

Being accused of a sex crime is extremely serious, as the consequences can have a major impact on a person’s future. For example, in addition to jail time, a person accused of child pornography possession may be required to register as a sex offender. This could prevent a person from living in certain areas and working certain jobs. Not only can this prevent a person from bettering his or her circumstances, but it can also prevent him or her from being a productive member of society.

Because the consequences are so severe, an attorney may work to protect an accused person’s rights throughout the trial. In some cases, it is possible to seek lessened charges or even a dismissal if there is a lack of evidence or if the person’s rights were violated when being taken into custody.
