Florida woman must repay $112,000 in disability fraud case

Disability fraud is not a very common form of crime. The system is very slow and the amount of benefits relatively low for the amount of effort someone would need to invest to perpetuate a successful fraud. That could include falsifying medical records, committing for months or even years to acting out an exaggerated display of symptoms and much more. The amount of work hardly seems worth it, given the meager benefits many people receive through disability programs.

Florida raids lead to drug charges

Florida police carried out a number of arrests in West Volusia County on March 13, 2018, capturing 21 people wanted on drug charges. There are three warrants that remain outstanding. The arrests came as part of a 10-month investigation, Operation Heavyweight, into heroin trafficking in the county, and it involved a number of law enforcement agencies, including the Volusia Bureau of Investigation and Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

Police said that the raids, which they labeled Operation Heavyweight, included executing search warrants in multiple locations. They identified the supplier of the drugs as living in Orlando, while other people arrested were based in Deltona.

2 people in Florida charged with drug crimes

A 31-year-old woman attempted to hide under blankets when the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant on her home in Destin at 403 Azalea Drive. Also present during the search was a 65-year-old man. Law enforcement officers arrested them both after allegedly finding heroin and crack cocaine in the house. Both people had previous felony convictions in the state, and the woman was on probation.
