Man caught with underage child now facing child porn charges

Aug 10, 2017 | Sex Offenses

On Aug. 9, it was reported that a Florida man who was already in police custody for battery is now facing charges for child molestation. According to authorities in Tallahassee, the 23-year-old man was accused of engaging in sex acts with an underage boy.

The man was taken into custody on June 30 at around 4 a.m. after authorities found him naked in a Tallahassee park located near the Piney Z subdivision. He was reportedly engaged in the sex acts when he was discovered. The 15-year-old boy involved in the incident told authorities that he met the older man on the ‘Grindr’ dating app. They then met for sex in the park. The accused man told authorities that he believed the boy was 16 years old.

Authorities said that during a search of the man’s phone, investigators discovered child porn. As a result, the man faces a number of charges for sex crimes, including lewd and lascivious battery, sex offenses against a child and possession of child pornography. His bond was set at $122,500. He entered a not guilty plea and his trial was scheduled for December.

Those accused of sex offenses, especially against children, will likely face serious consequences that could have an impact on their futures. If they are convicted and are required to register as a sex offender, they may not be allowed to work certain jobs and may be limited as to where they can work. A criminal law attorney could mount a strong defense for a person who has been accused of sexual assault or possession of child pornography. Depending on the circumstances, the attorney may argue that there is a lack of evidence or that the evidence was illegally obtained.
