Welcome To Sex Offender City

Feb 26, 2016 | Sex Offenses

WFTV9 recently had a story that detailed a “sex offender city” in Pahokee, FL that provides a place of residence for released sex offenders who would otherwise have nowhere to go.

While it’s great that someone is finding solutions to prevent homelessness for people who have paid their debt to society, the fact that these people would otherwise be homeless is a problem. It illustrates the long-lasting impact that a sex crimes conviction or, in some cases, even a charge can have on a person’s life.

According to the story, “More than 4,000 thousand sex offenders and predators reside in central Florida, and about 10 percent of those registered offenders and predators have nowhere to go when they are released from prison.”

This is tragic and wrong. People who have paid their debt to society should have the opportunity to rebuild their lives and become contributing members of their communities.

Police back the idea of concentrating sex offenders in a community because it makes it easier for them to hunt them down as opposed to “under bridges, in wooded areas, in places we have to ferret them out.”

While he hope the situation facing people after release become better in the future, the best way to avoid experiencing this yourself is to make sure you have an experienced attorney looking out for your interests if you are under investigation for or have been charged with a sex crime.
